Tattoo care
So your thinking about getting a tattoo. Maybe your doing it cause your friends are doing it or you think they are cool, or the best reason of all you put alot of thought into it and are getting something that is very special to you and only you. That is fantastic!!! Now heres some thing you need to know so you will have a great experience. Aftercare is the most important part of getting your new ink to look fantstic and stay looking great for many years to come. Your artist will go over most of this with you afterward but it never hurts to go in with a little foreknowlege. Make sure you buy 2 things and have them at home before you get your new tattoo. 1: a tube of either bactitracin, triple antibiotic, or neosporin. You will need to apply this 3-4 times a day thinly and rubbed in well for the first 3-4 days. 2: a good quality moisturizer lotion (perfume free), I actually prefer either lubriderm or my personal favorite is a product called bag balm (most drug stores carry it). You will appy this as many times a day as you can until all the flaking stops or ther is no sign of dry skin. Ok you got your supplies and you just got home from the tattoo shop, you should leave you bandaging on for at least 4-6 hours. When your ready to take it off wash it gently with your hand and warm soapy water, go ahaed and apply your first coat of ointment right after washing. While your new ink is healing over the next week or so heres some things to avoid 1: DO NOT let the shower hit it directly (this may cause any scabbing to come off prematurely) 2: DO NOT use a washcloth on it. LAther with your hand and indirectly rinse. 3: DO NOT expose to direct sunlight for any length of time. The sking wher your new ink is going to be as sensitive to sunburn as a fair skinned baby. 4: DO NOT go swimming or soak in a bath until all signs of scabbing and flaking are gone. Now you have followed all the aftercare rules and everything has healed great, just remember to use sunscreen on your ink when your going to be out in the sun showing of your new ink, and it will look fantastic for man many years to come. |
